One of my favourite designers!

Image
I have decided to write a post on Henry Holland as he is a very well established fashion designer and how he portrays his work is such an individual creation. Henry Holland started out by graduating from the London College of Printing with a BA Journalism, he started his quirky slogan Tees in 2006 as a bit of a joke but when the designers Gareth Pugh and Giles Deacon wore t-shirts that joked about each other Henry was launched into a international fashion career which in three months would have him making clothes for clients such as Marc Jacobs, Christopher Kane and Nicole Richie.  He worked with the model Agyness Dean to promote his quirky 80’s style t-shirts that promoted slogans such as “ I’ll tell you who’s boss, Kate Moss”. He started to expand to womenswear, accessories and underwear as him and Agyness were flown to international fashion events such as American Vogue‟s annual Met Ball and shot together for the cover of Dazed & Confused Japan which launched him into having international stockists which he could easily boast about and helped him to be taken seriously as a brand.
I chose to analyse Henry Holland as I admire his quirkiness that got him noticed in the fashion industry in the first place as I feel its important to be different within big industries like this especially the fashion one, he has also done collaborations with other designers such as Levis and has created one off pieces like a pink wedding dress for the LA boutique of REVOLVE. He is very connected with social media because of his blogging experience and so he finds it easy to promote new designs, technology has made the design industry so much more accessible because they are able to promote and get noticed around the world instantly without even having to go. His signatures are “bold, irreverent and colourful" which are instantly noticed in his women’s clothing, when interviewed by London Fashion Week he explained  that he designed with a London girl’s aesthetic in mind and he also loved to see girls wearing his designs in their own unique way.

As much as I love his designs and his work, I do think its slightly over priced because yes they are individual to an extent but he has to be careful that other designers don’t start copying his style and sell it off for a lower price, I know a lot of his fans will stay loyal to him but his target audience are late teens to probably mid to late 20s and we don’t all have countless amounts of money to spare on clothes. However even though his prices may be a little high this does usually promote good quality clothing which people do usually look for so I think he has a very busy future ahead of him.

Last night out at University before going home for Christmas. 12/12/13

Top - Topshop
Shorts - Topshop
Necklace - Topshop
Red Lipstick - Russian Red - Rimmel London

This was my last night out before I finished university for Christmas and I had planned this outfit a while back for it. I recently purchased the top in this particular colour as Wine/Maroon is a winter colour and also one of my favourites for this season, the shorts have a been a long time favourite of mine because of the studs and complimenting of my shape. I decided to team it with a statement necklace and my usual array of bracelets for a casual but smart going out look.

University time. 10/10/13

Jumper - Topshop
Shirt - Vintage
Leggings - Topshop

It was quite cold outside yesterday so I decided to combine the love of warmth with fashion and this is what happened. I have had the leggings for a while now, but haven't ventured out in them very often as they are quite dark and the past few months have been summer so they wouldn't of been very appropriate, the jumper has also been around for a while too, I was thinking of throwing it out but then I realised it complimented so many other pieces so I stuck with it. I am so overwhelmed with university work at the moment so if I don't post a lot then you will know.

Graphics work.

Sorry I have not been posting much these days I am up to my ears in uni work. I do Graphic Design and Illustration at De Montfort university and I really really enjoy it as it allows me to be free with the projects we are set. My major projects so far are Fish&Birds, Old Age, Event promotion, CAD and a book illustration competition, it has been a stressful couple of weeks but I think I am really starting to get the hang of things because I am starting to find my old art self back after it was shunned out by Bath spa last year.
I like using different types of media which you can't see in this collection of photographs but I do use paint and pastels to experiment with the colour which in turn will probably get me more marks, I have settled back into working and the university life quite quickly as I know quite a lot of people here it's been easy to get to know new people also. I hope eventually I will know what I want to do as a career and find my style.

Hope you enjoy,

Tartantastic.

//Shirt - Urban Oufitters//Scarf - Retro Apparel//Leggings - Daisy Street//Trousers - Urban Outfitters//

This is one of my favourite trends of Autumn 2013 as Tartan can be worn as different pieces but still look on top of its game. I picked a few examples when I was doing some online shopping and found that quite a few clothing brands didn't have it as one of their main trends which I found quite strange but then thought they do sometimes associate Tartan with the "Punk" and "Checked" trend. I particularly like the Tartan trousers as they can be worn in a casual or formal situation depending what you put it with, for example the trousers on the far right could be worn at a job interview if you teamed it with a shirt and smart shoes but it could also be worn casually when it's teamed with a jumper and creepers.

Do you like the tartan trend?

Necklace - Topshop
Creepers - Underground

I am moving into university today so I threw together some art student ensemble to re introduce myself. I haven't worn my creepers in a while so I thought they should make another debut at my university, the shirt is also one of my favourites as its quite quirky and I got it in the sale at Urban Outfitters it was originally £120 and I got it for £30 (bargain!)

Bedroom antics.

Ben De Lisi

I moved into my new room at my dads the other day and so typically I wanted to decorate the room to make it my own. So I looked around a few department stores but nothing really bounced out at me until I came across a section dedicated to Ben De Lisi's designs, I immediately fell in love with the quirkiness of it all as I wanted to buy everything. I chose these three items for my room as they match each other  but are also very different at the same time, the robot lamp is my favourite purchase as I have never seen anything like it.
His designs have inspired me to think about what I would like to do as a career, I've not really thought about it much but there seems to be a lot of options.

My Topshop picks.

I go to Topshop way to much and I when I do I always seem to buy something I don't actually need but to be honest that's a lot of girls problems these days. These are a few of my favourite things they have in at the moment, the leather jacket is one of my favourites because you can detach the fur on it so its suitable for summer nights and winter nights. Both the map shirt and treggings are out of stock on the website but I am determined to have them in my grasp at some point this Autumn.
I am glad they are bringing back the tartan trend because its a classic piece of fashion which always comes around every few years but you'd think that girls would be fed up of it as the design is typically used in school wear but the benefits are that it can be paired with so many things such as the boots on the far right. Talking about the boots (which are so beautiful but so expensive it makes me sad), they are to summery for Autumn I think because I don't think socks go very well with them so you would just get cold feet but it doesn't matter as they are beautiful and I would wear them all year round anyway.

Jacket - £58
Map print shirt - £30
Tartan treggings - £25
Cut out boots - £70

Do you have any favourite Topshop items?

"Lost Generation" by Rizzle Kicks song review. (First review EVER)

Lost Generation - Rizzle Kicks

I am a big fan of these Brighton born duo because of the points they raise in this song, it's not unusual for them to talk about society. For example, in their previous song "When I was a youngster" they raised the point that most people are so ambitious as children and then lose the motivation as they grow old enough to buy alcohol.
This song starts off with a beat and a tune that sounds like its from an old school video game which later turns into a jazzy tune, this blends well with their voices as they both compliment each other with Jordan's rapping and Harley's falsetto voice. The song raises the main points of girls being called sluts if they sleep around when boys don't, John Terry's racist comments, reality television and how much of a dick Jeremy Kyle is.
It's a tune you could easily dance to in clubs but also chill to round the house.

London Town.

I always love the buzz of London as it's always so busy and there is always something going on. It was coming to the end of summer and all the streets were filled with summer sales, the leaves were starting to turn brown and it was the right temperature for summer dresses and t-shirts. I visited Carnaby street for the first time and discovered this little tea room which lets you smell and taste the tea before you sit down and drink it, it was quaint and smelled exotic as the aroma of the teas filled the whole place. Obviously I would have to try a tea and scones to seal the approval I had already made.
Where's your favourite place in London?

Outfit for Freshers? 19th September 2013.

Top - Miss Selfridge
Leather Shorts - New Look
Belt - Urban Outfitters
Heeled Converse Shoes - Topshop
Took a risk and bought leather shorts even though they haven't always looked good on me, however going to the gym has improved my bum so it looks more complimenting within the back of the shorts. I love this little ensemble because its like a twist of monochrome as I use grey instead of white, I don't really know I just thought it looked cool really.

Bestival ^_^

I went to Bestival a couple of weeks ago, I love the festival atmosphere minus the porta loos and drunk dickheads. Music is what I am passionate about even though I do a graphics course because music is still a big part of my life and I can't go a day without it. Seeing acts live is a big thing to me and it makes me feel at home in my heart. I saw the likes of Bastille, The 1975, Elton John, Tom Odell, Knife Party, Snoop Dogg, and Disclosure. I also got a henna tattoo for the first time and its left a mark on my hand as I got a tan on my holiday.
If you have a favourite festival moment tell me all about it :)

21st -22nd June 2013 Outfit

Dress - American Apparel
Jacket - Levis Vintage
Panda Hat - River Island

I worked at a club last night doing promo stuff but it didn't work out to well as I quit the next day but this outfit kept me warm throughout the night. I got the dress in New York but I'm sure it would be on the american apparel's website. The jacket has not been with me for long I picked it up in a vintage shop in Bath and I always like to combine it with dresses because it gives an edgy look compared to a leather jacket.

21st June 2013 - Topshop Obsessed Outfit.

Jacket - Topshop
Necklace - Topshop
Top- River Island Mens (cut up)
Jeans - Topshop
Boots - Topshop

Caught up with an old friend today, we went to costa and a pub in the countryside. I was going to wear shorts with this but I thought it wasn't warm enough so I stuck with the jeans. Also it's pretty obvious I'm into topshop but I do shop in Urban Oufitters and little shops too because I think its important to get the edge of individuality in your style too. I haven't discovered my little edge yet but eventually I may do. (Also excuse the bad quality of photographs, no one was around to photograph me and I was in a rush I will improve next time)

New York March 2013

This was my third time going to New York and this time I went with University rather than my parents. It's interesting when a group of students are thrown in a city like New York we just go with our gut, we did the typical touristy things but we also went to little chains of restaurants and shops because we wanted to discover new things that weren't typically found in the UK.  Also I have only been in summer so going in winter/spring time gave me a different outlook on the city and allowed me to take some photographs of things I didn't experience in the past such as Central Park with an ice rink or a downtown thrift shop in Brooklyn. I advise to go and just go with your gut, don't ask for recommendations just go and discover your version of the city. You wont regret it.

Aberystwyth

I had only been to Wales once before this trip and that was Cardiff back in 2007 so going to Aberystwyth was a shock as the town is TINY and it is very welsh. I'm more of a city girl myself so as I was travelling through Wales on the train I was shocked to see so many sheep and so much countryside as Cardiff is so westernised.
Anyway, the reason I visited was to see one of my best friends who is photographed having some tea on top of the tallest hill in Aber. I enjoyed having a cider by the beach and exploring the suburbs as the houses were very colourful and neat. I was over joyed when I found a little heart shaped rock (YES FOUND) on the beach whilst we were walking towards the rock pools, I am a sucker for them as I've had an interest in the sea since I was a little one.

Winchester

Winchester is close to my heart so I always like to go back occasionally to re live the memories I once made there. It has a cute vintage market and the grounds near the cathedral in summer are always full of families having picnics and students drinking cider. I love the feel of the city because even though it's small it has a lot going on and the little cafes make it seem like the town has never aged.
